ALVECHURCH will be hoping to use their battling display in the Worcestershire Senior Urn as a springboard.

The Lye Meadow outfit came through a testing encounter to see win 3-2 on penalties last week and book their place in the semi-finals, where they will play either Studley or Malvern.

Andy Nicol had scored a penalty and missed another before Gareth Evans had bagged a leveller to make it 2-2 and force a shootout.

Nicol volunteered to take the first kick only to be saved by Hadyn Whitcombe, before Evans, Daniel Williams and Michael McGrath took their chances.

Now Alvechurch resume the Midlands Football League Premier when they go to Quorn on Saturday (3pm ko) and then entertain Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).

Manager Lee Adams said: “We’re still looking for more in terms of goals and I mean from the whole team.

“We are solid at the back, we’ve only conceded 18 goals but have only scored 25 and it’s up to the team to create and score goals.

“We need a bit more quality in terms of delivery to give our forwards a chance.

“But in the last eight games we’ve won four, drew two and lost two, so we’re doing okay.”

Alvechurch will hold their training at Studley tomorrow night because of Cadbury Athletic’s game against Smethwick Rangers tonight.

Adams said: “With the way the weather is and the game on Wednesday, we can’t really train at Lye Meadow on Thursday.

“We’re booked in at Studley but will only get a quarter of the pitch, which is not enough to really work on what we want to do.”
