TABLE-topping Chris and Gerry Show’s unbeaten start to the season was ended by bottom side Swan in the Studley Skittles League.

For Swan, Graham Howells made 39 (including a 12 stack) and was backed up by captain Dave Maule (38) & Carl Moorman (35).

Tenth-placed Lodge Farmers climbed three places in ending Jumbo Jet Set’s 100 per cent start to the season.

This was another game with nothing between the team after three leagues, only for Farmers to pull out a 15 pin lead after the next leg.

Jumbos, who took this game to finish with their season’s lowest total, put in a good final leg score but it was never enough although it needed Farmers’ captain and last bowler Glyn Morley to get his side over the winning line.

Maudslay climbed to joint top spot after comfortably seeing off Alley Cats.

Alley Cats narrowly won leg four to avoid a whitewash but only had good scores from Sue Sollis, Neil Harrison and Sam Billyard with 34 each.

Mixtures and Engineers had a topsy-turvey game. Engineers looked home and dry with a 19 pin lead after two legs, only for Mixtures to hit back to be ahead by a single pin after four legs.

Engineers were then left a tricky 63 to win and it took last man Mark Ganderton (34 pins) to make the winning score.

Other good scores for Engineers were John Bool 38 (15 stack), Dennis Compton 36 and Luke Saunders.

For Mixtures, Gwyn McDonald, with 40 (14 stack) again top scored, while Colin Smith made 32.

Alcester Nomads got the better of Well Developed despite a late rallying.

Nomads were 22 pins up and cruising at that stage but then Well Developed at last found some form and staged a late rally to take the remaining two legs.

Nomads still ended comfortable winners with Bob Browning making 35 and Alan Spreckley and Gordon Povey 34 each.

In reply, Jim Child (35) and 34 each from Ron Skidmore amd David Searle were best for Well Developed.
