Frome Town 0, Redditch United 4

Emphatic Redditch United continued their phenomenal form as they proved far too strong for lowly Frome Town on a breezy Somerset afternoon, writes Lewis Cox.

The Reds extended their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions, with five league wins from six in the Southern Premier Division.

Goals from George Carline, a first in red for Dior Angus, Jermaine Hylton and Ashley Sammons secured the three points but on another day it could have comfortably been double that for the free-scoring side.

Hylton was the first to test the second-bottom side’s resistance, his thunderous half-volley on five minutes smashed against the crossbar as James Mutton was unable to convert the presentable rebound.

Man of the match Carline released Sammons with a delightful outside of the boot ball but the skipper saw his effort kept out by busy home goalkeeper Darren Chitty.

Redditch’s dangerous duo combined again on 19 minutes as Sammons released Hylton over the top with Chitty at his best to save with his legs.

On 24 minutes, and after plenty of near misses, the visitors took a worthy lead. Hylton’s effort was again palmed away by Chitty, this time only into the path of Carline who stroked home the rebound.

Further saves were made to deny Simeon Maye, Hylton and Sammons before Lewis Haldane flicked the post with a header in Frome’s only venture forward five minutes before the break.

Liam McDonald’s men came out into the second-half firing and with not even 60 seconds registered they doubled their lead. Carline received a pass from Sammons before setting up Angus to fire in his first goal since signing from Daventry Town.

Ten minutes later and the Reds struck a magnificent third. After a move of 15 or so passes, Angus drove from the half-way line and found Maye, who similarly beat three men before his feint deceived two defenders and keeper Chitty allowing Hylton to slot in his 12th of the campaign.

Sammons added a sense of reality to the scoreline with a typical effort from 25 yards that rose into the top-left hand corner with seven minutes remaining, before sub Jamie Spencer was brought down in added time – only for Sammons’ spot-kick to cannon off the crossbar.
