Woodrush 46,

Harbury 24

TABLE-topping Woodrush made hard work of struggling Harbury on Saturday in Midlands Division Three West (South).

Despite their opponents going into the match bottom of the table, Rush were concerned about their experienced rivals.

The hosts had slipped through the gears, with Andy Warrilow crossing out wide on the left after eight minutes and Josh Tomlinson slotting a penalty to stretch the lead after 17 minutes.

Harbury hit back with a penalty of their own a minute later but when Steve Smart cruised through a gap on 21 minutes it looked as though the home side were in control.

However, they made the mistake of trying just a little too hard, failing to follow the rehearsed play patterns and attempting to score from first phase with no patience in the build up and were caught out by a resilient Harbury team who hit back with a try of their own on.

A second try on on the stroke of half-time handed Harbury the lead.

Captain Steve Smart galvanised his team and bagged two tries early in the half, before John Anderson added another touch down.

The impressive Mike Loughrey crashed over, and while Harbury pulled one back, Warrilow crossed the line to complete the scoring and secure victory.
