Redditch United 9, Bishops Cleeve 2

RAMPANT Reds served up another goal-fest as they eased into the second round of the Red Insure League Cup.

Jermaine Hylton led the bombardment with four of the goals and saw another chance hit the post and yet another cleared off the line.

And with midfield pair Liam Spink and Ashley Sammons also at the top of their games, it was a night to remember for the United fans who braved the wind and rain.

Defender Calum Flanagan opened the scoring midway through the first half with Hylton then netting with a peach of a strike into the top right-hand corner to round-off some sweeping move down the left wing.

But Cleeve, struggling in the league below the Reds, hit back to level the scores through recent signing Christian Boating who punished some half-hearted defending with two close-range efforts.

With Adam Millard also clearing a Hylton shot off the line, Boating’s brace should have given the visitors a much-needed lift going into the break.

But a minute into injury time, Jordan Cullinane-Liburd fired home a Sammons corner to edge the home side back in front.

And any thoughts of a cup exit were totally dashed five minutes after the restart when Hylton latched on to a long ball to net his second of the game.

From then on it was a case of how many the Valley Stadium side would score with Cleeve keeper Gavin Jones doing his best to keep the tally down.

He pushed a George Carline effort onto the post but was again let down by his defence on 69 minutes when Hylton was sent clear by an excellent Spink pass to complete his hat-trick.

The woodwork denied him a fourth soon after while United keeper Sam Hornby needed to pull off an excellent point-blank save to push away a Matt Magee effort.

Ashley Sammons netted a sixth on 79 minutes, Hylton the provider, with Carline curling a wonderful effort beyond Jones two minutes later.

Hylton and Carline then wrapped up the proceedings as the Reds ran in four goals in five minutes against their bemused visitors.
