ALVECHURCH manager Lee Adams has warned his improving side that Continental Star will provide a real test.

The Lye Meadow side return to the Midland Premier with a home clash on Saturday (3pm KO).

While the Rushall-based outfit may be languishing in the bottom half of the table, Adams believes their attack-minded approach will test his team’s defensive capability.

The Church will be looking to build on their last league outing when they held high-flying Long Eaton United to a 0-0 draw.

But they lost 3-1 to Causeway United in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

He said: “In this division more than any other, any team can beat any other.

“If you’re not at it from the start, you can really pay the price.

“So we’ve got to be playing at our best against Continental, who are a very fluid attacking team.

“They have scored a few goals this season and they are willing to throw seven or eight players forward so we’ve got to be wary of that.”

Alvechurch are currently ninth in the league but Adams wants his side to starting pushing up the table.

He added: “I want us to push on in the next five or ten games and ideally by Christmas we’ll be getting near the top five.”

Alvechurch had no injury worries going into last night’s game but right-back Jordan Cullinane-Liburd continues his spell at Redditch United.

The youngster, who is dual registered to both clubs, started in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Weymouth at the Valley Stadium.

But Adams is still keen to bring in two or three players to bolster his options.

He has already drafted in Michael McGrath, son Joe and Luke Shearer and the trio have settled in well so far.

Veteran forward Jermaine Clarke has also left to join league rivals Stourport Swifts.

The manager said: “We are still working on two or three new signings but we’ll take our time to find them.

“It’s not the easiest time to find new players, of course it’s best in pre-season.”

Meanwhile, the reserves suffered a 4-3 loss to Sutton Coldfield’s second string team on Saturday.
