JUBILANT manager Adrian Mander hailed his players after they pulled off a shock by defeating Coventry Sphinx in the FA Vase.

The Bees caused a cup upset when they defeated their opponents, who play a level above in the Midlands Premier, 3-2.

Matt Bailey had put Studley ahead in Coventry but two goals either side of half-time edged the home team into the lead.

Bailey levelled in the 67th minute, finishing off a slick move, before on-loan Redditch United forward Jarrell Hylton scored the winner in the 85th minute.

Victory will see Studley go to Gornal Athletic in the First Round on Saturday, November 1, which means Mander, who had previously managed Cradley Town, returns to his native Black Country.

He said: “The first half was close but I thought we completely dominated the second.

“We had conceded just before half-time but even worse we let in another about 30 seconds after we kicked off.

“But after that I was very happy.

“I know Gornal well, their ground isn’t the best and they have some decent players so it will be tough.

“But if we can replicate the performance against Coventry then we have a chance.”

Studley, who were set to play Lye Town last night in the Worcestershire Senior Urn, entertain Southam on Saturday (3pm kick off) and go to Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday (7.45pm kick off).
