REDDITCH United manager Liam McDonald believes his side will learn from their mistakes.

After last Tuesday’s FA Cup exit to Evesham United, the Reds saw their winless run in the Southern League Premier Division stretch to four games with a 4-0 defeat to Hitchin on Saturday.

With the game poised at 1-0, Max Loveridge was dismissed just before half-time.

McDonald was sent to the stands at the break after a debate with the referee, while captain Ashley Sammons saw red as Hitchin filled their boots in style.

“We have a young squad and I have to accept that sometimes we will make mistakes,” said the Redditch manager.

“But we are on a journey together and we will learn.

“I am fairly laid back, but I felt the referee changed the game in Hitchin’s favour, because Max was unlucky to be sent off.”

Loveridge will start his three-match ban on Saturday, October 4, with Sammons commencing a two-game suspension.

Top-scorer Jamie Molyneux is set for a three-month spell on the sidelines after fracturing an ankle during an accidental training ground accidental with Joel Caines.

McDonald said: “It was a training ground accident, Joel and Jamie went down together and he’s been unlucky to pick up a serious injury.

“But it’s a chance for other players to step up.”

Redditch thrashed Coventry Sphinx 7-0 in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Monday.

McDonald has signed Alvechurch’s Jordan Cullinane-Liburd and is closing in on a forward. United have a free weekend, but resume the league on Tuesday at Paulton (7.45pm ko).
