REDDITCH United manager Liam McDonald is hoping their FA Cup clash at Evesham will prove the catalyst for a return to form.

The Reds go to the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday aiming to get their season back on track when they tackle the Robins in the first qualifying round of the famous competition.

Victory could kick-off an exciting cup run and pocket the club £3,000 in prize money.

They face an Evesham side who have made a solid start in the Southern League Division One South & West.

United saw off the Robins to win the Worcestershire Senior Cup last season and will be favourites to progress, but McDonald is predicting a tough game.

They head into the cup clash after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Poole and their 0-0 home draw against Cirencester.

After winning five league games in a row, Redditch have not tasted victory for three matches.

“Evesham will be a much tougher prospect than the last time we met them, they have definitely strengthened,” said the United manager.

“But we’re going to treat it like any other game, we’re not going to put any pressure on ourselves despite the financial reward if we win.

“We’ve had Evesham watched three times, so we know how good they are, but we’ll be going to try to win the game.”

McDonald is set to recall attacking pair Jermaine Hylton and Jamie Molyneux for the weekend’s clash.

Hylton missed out because of groin injury which has affected him, while Molyneux started on the bench against Cirencester.

Jim Mutton continues to serve his three-match ban, so Dan Scarr and Callum Flanagan will continue their partnership in central defence. McDonald felt his side had slipped up in their last two Southern League Premier games.

He said: “The Poole game was very tough and we probably deserved a draw and we lost to a dubious penalty.

“But they are now the side tipped to win the league and we matched them for almost all the game.

“Cirencester came for a point and got it. We outworked them, but Cirencester put ten men behind the ball and made it difficult for us.

“I didn’t risk Jermaine, who has a groin injury, and rested Jamie and played Rikardo Reid and Simeon Maye and they did well. We’re going to have to learn how to break down teams who are more defensive, but that’s something we can work on. The FA Cup is a break away from the league and an opportunity to progress in a cup.”

Meanwhile, winger Edwin Ahenkorah has gone on loan to Redditch’s neighbours Alvechurch.

The attacker made his Church debut in the FA Vase defeat to Lichfield City.
