Redditch United 0, Cirencester Town 0

MISSED chances proved costly for Redditch as they allowed Cirencester to return home to the Cotswolds with a share of the spoils.

Liam McDonald’s side should have been home and dry by the interval as they continually carved open the visitors’ defence.

Simeon Maye nipped in on three minutes only to be denied by the legs of Glyn Garner and Ricardo Reid then found himself in front of goal only to fire tamely at the keeper.

On 25 minutes, an excellent cross from Jamie Spencer picked out Reid but once again he failed to find the target as his six-yard header flew wide.

The one-way traffic continued going in to half-time with Reid latching on to a Maye pass and rounding the keeper only for his shot to be cleared off the line by Cirencester skipper Shane Anson. The ball broke to Ashley Sammons but his rebound was palmed over by the keeper.

After being in control for the opening half, the Reds struggled to maintain the upper hand after the break and their only chance of note came from substitute Edwin Ahenkorah whose well-struck free-kick forced a good low save from Garner.

The visitors created some chances themselves in the second period with a powerful Ben Wells cross forcing United keeper Brad Catlow to punch clear before Gethin Jones looped a header over the target.
