LIAM McDonald is ready to dip into the transfer market to help bolster Redditch United’s strong start to the season in the Southern League Premier.

United are flying high after four wins in six games so far and while he is happy with attacking options such as Jermaine Hylton, Jamie Spencer, Jamie Molyneux and Ashley Sammons, the Reds boss is keen to strengthen even more.

He said: “If we have to add a player then we will but it will be someone who fits into our team ethic and squad.

“I am looking for someone to compliment the good players we have got in the final third of the pitch.

“That’s no criticism of our forward players, who have done very well for us so far.”

Redditch will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Dunstable Town, which ended their five-game winning streak, with two games in three days.

United tackle league leaders Poole Town on Saturday (3pm) and entertain Cirencester at home on Monday (7.45pm).

Saturday’s clash will also mark National Non-League Day.

McDonald said: “I thought Dunstable were the best side we played this season.

“We didn’t match the levels we had produced in previous games and while we had plenty of energy, we looked tired mentally.

“It affected our decision-making and passing but I can’t be too critical of the lads, who worked very hard again.

“It’s inevitable we will lose games this season but it’s how we bounce back that counts and we’ve got a good record of responding well to defeats.

“Poole won’t be easy but if we were to beat them and Cirencester, we’d go top of the table for a day at least.”

Liam Spink and Leavi Oshungbure both missed the Dunstable game with injury but are set to return for the Poole clash.

McDonald was not worried about losing any of his highly-rated youngsters on the final day of the transfer window. United’s squad continues to attract attention from higher ranked clubs.

He said: “I know my players and while there was some interest in some of them, I know they are happy at the club.”
