FELIX Gill was a double winner for Redditch HDA at the County Closed Tennis Championships.

The event attracted the best players from Herefordshire and Worcestershire, who competed to be crowned county champions in their age group.

Sixteen members from Redditch competed in the event across a variety of age groups.

Gill went one better better than last year’s finals defeat in the Under-12s when he came from behind to defeat Harry Friendly 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

He then paired up with Friendly for the doubles, which they won in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 in the final.

Harvey Ravenscroft joined forces with Stuart Shannon from Bromsgrove in the U-10s boys’ doubles and were crowned county doubles champions after beating Sam Rayner and Michael Hayes 4-1, 4-1 and Oliver Dando and Scott Mortimer 4-1, 4-0.

In the U-10s girls, Isabelle O’Connor was ranked second Latesha Grant third after they tied at the top of the table with Malvern’s Stephanie Combe.

In the U-14s doubles, Maggs and Joseph Morris got the better of Joseph Wherry and Billy Wright from Worcester 6-2, 6-4 in the final.

Maggs also saw off Wherry in the singles final.

Matthew Cutler came fourth, while there was a fifth place for Morris.

Tim Bradley and Maggs won the U-18s doubles beating Malvern boys Adam Stanton and Tobie Timmermans 3-6, 6-3, (10-7) to be crowned county champions.

This is a great achievement for all the players and all their hard work all year round has helped them compete with the best players in the county.

Redditch HDA offers opportunities for children and adults of all standards to play tennis in a friendly environment.
