YOUNGSTER Issy Griffiths did the town proud at an international event.

The 14-year-old Redditch Swimming Club member was part of the England Youth team at the Portuguese National Championships in Oeiras, Portugal.

She won silver medals in the 400m and 800m freestyle events.

Also representing England at this competition was former RSC swimmer, Abby Humphreys.

The club had members in action in national and international tournaments, competing in the ASA National Championships and in prestigious galas in Portugal and Canada.

Jo Alexander travelled to Montreal to swim the 50m butterfly in the FINA World Masters Championships, where she finished in 40.6 seconds.

RSC Club captain Paul Wilkes qualified yet again for the ASA National Youth Championships, at the Pond’s Forge pool in Sheffield.

Competing in the over-19 years age group, he came 25th overall in the 100m butterfly event.

Braiden Hartles made it to his first Nationals, qualifying for four events �— 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle.

Superb swims saw him make the finals (top 10 in UK) in both the 50m and 100m events for 15- to 16-year-olds.

In the 50m final, Hartles finished in ninth place, while in the 100m final he bettered his Worcester County record to claim eighth.

At the ASA National Age Group Championships, also held in Sheffield, Issy Griffiths, 14 won silver medals in the 400m individual medley and 800m freestyle.

Breaststroke specialist Megan Moss, 14, qualified for both the 100m and 200m races.

Head coach Chris Britt said: “These excellent results have rounded off another very good season for us.

“Our swimmers have followed up earlier successes at County and Regional competitions, with some very strong performances again at the Nationals.

“Issy’s selection for her first England team, and her medal success in Portugal, is a fantastic achievement and just reward for her tremendous efforts.”
