As the Crown Green bowling season nears its end, the week brought promotion for two of Alcester's teams.

In Yardley Wood Division 2, Alcester's A team entertained Henley A, producing a splendid performance to win by 70 shots. Alcester leading winners were the superb Ken Craddock, whose opponent had to retire with the score at 12-1, giving Ken a 21-1 score line, John Alderson with an excellent 21-5, John Slater and Dave Hovell both big winners at 21-9 and 21-10 respectively. Also in the points for Alcester were Ken Harvey (21-13) and captain Renny Bannister (21-14). This gave Alcester an 8-2 points win, enough to secure promotion to Division 1 for 2015 in this their last match of the season.

The Alcester B team in Division 4 travelled to Henley, where they went down by 24 shots. Alcester had 3 winning cards, from David Hodgson (21-12), Jean Sherrington (21-15) and Val McDermott (21-18), to gain 3 league points against the home side's 7.

Thursday evening action in the Heart of England League saw Alcester A host a Division 2 match against White Hart A. It was a hard fought game in which most winners were by just a few shots, but with Alcester gaining the upper hand by virtue of 7 winning cards. These were from Renny Bannister (21-11), Ken Harvey (21-15), John Slater (21-16), Peter Barber (21-17) John Alderson (21-19) and Dave Hovell and Jean Bannister (both 21-20), to give Alcester a 24 shot victory, but with 17 league points as opposed to White Hart's 1.

In Division 5 Alcester B travelled to Solihull Marsh Lane to play their A side to complete their season. Although they suffered an overwhelming defeat, failing to gain a single winning card, Alcester came home happy - their narrow 3 shot defeat the previous week had been enough to secure promotion to Division 4 for next season, along with Solihull Marsh Lane.

The Over 60's section of the Heart of England League found Alcester A hosting Kings Norton A in a Division 1 match. Still not safe from relegation, Alcester produced a superb performance to win by 20 shots. Not only that, they also had 5 winning cards out of 6 to gain a 15 points to 1 victory. Winners for Alcester were Renny Bannister and captain John Slater, both excellent at 21-7 and 21-8 respectively. They were backed up by David Whittington (21-15), Carole Slater (21-16) and Jean Bannister (21-19, consigning her opponent to his first defeat of the season).

The B team in Division 6 continued their march to promotion with a good away win at Marston Green B by 13 shots. Winning cards Jean Craddock (21 excellent at 21-9), Val McDermott (equally good with a 21-9 success), Margaret D'Elia (21-17) and John Willis (21-18). This gave Alcester a 14 points to 2 victory, their 12th of the season and the 10th in successive matches. But, there are four matches left to play, so promotion is still not certain.

The week ended with Finals Day at the Alcester club. Having fought his way into both finals in the season long competitions, it was double heartbreak for Ken Craddock. He had to concede runner-up position to Renny Bannister in the Over 60's David Hughes Memorial Cup, and suffered the same fate in the Club Championship, this time to club President, Dave Hovell.
