NEWLY-appointed manager Lee Adams has the credentials to bring success to Alvechurch, says chairman Richard Thorndike.

Adams was given the reins at Lye Meadow on Monday night, just 24-hours after Ross Thorpe had handed in his resignation.

Alvechurch’s new boss comes with an impressive track record.

Last season, he guided Highgate United to third place, their highest-ever finish, before leaving during the summer for personal reasons.

However, he could not turn down the chance to manage Alvechurch after a successful interview with Thorndike on Monday.

“We had planned to go through a thorough interview process with several candidates, but after a great talk with Lee we realised he’s the man for the job,” said the chairman.

“He’s got a great track record and a long list of contacts at this level and we’re delighted to have him here.”

Adams will take training this week before going on a holiday booked prior to his appointment, meaning Keith Rostill and player Brendan Kelly will look after the team for Saturday’s home clash against Rocester and Monday’s trip to Westfields in the Midlands Premier (both 3pm ko).

The new manager’s first game could be on Saturday, September 30, which currently is a free weekend.

Adams commented: “I am a winner, I have succeeded wherever I have been and I want to bring success to the Alvechurch.”

Thorpe decided to leave Alvechurch after a ten-month spell following their 3-2 loss to AFC Wulfrunians in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Goals for Jermaine Clarke and Gareth Evans had fired them into a 2-0 lead, only for Wulfs to stage a fightback. Defeat meant they missed out on £1,500 prize money.

Church finished 13th after a testing end to the 2013-14, but a promising pre-season saw Thorpe gain high hopes for the new campaign.

So far Alvechurch have won two and lost two matches, but Saturday’s Cup exit was the final straw.

Thorpe said: “I felt I had to reassess my role and where I was going.

“I had two great years as an assistant at Sutton Coldfield and have coached at different levels of the game, but being a manager is something different. There’s more to it and I feel I have learned an awful lot.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Alvechurch and I must thank everyone for their support.”
