Chesham United 0, Redditch United 1

Ashley Sammons ensured Redditch were spot on during their clash with Chesham.

The midfielder hit a first minute penalty in to the top right-hand corner to seal victory and all three points for the Reds against a side who just missed out on promotion to Conference South last season.

The referee wasted no time pointing to the spot after Jamie Molyneux was brought down in the box straight from kick off. The match was just 15 seconds old.

It was a match Redditch dominated and such was the Red’s control of the game, Shane Gore in the opposition goal was named man of the match by the Chesham sponsors.

The home side, with former Birmingham City defender Darren Purse in their line-up had few chances of note.

They did hit the post after 13 minutes when the ball broke to Scott Thomas from a corner, his effort travelling across goal after striking the woodwork. Moments later, Ryan Blake put an effort wide.

For the Reds, the impressive Molyneux caused the Chesham defence numerous problems and he could have doubled the lead a minute before the break only for his shot to be blocked in front of goal.

In the second half the visitors continued to create the better chances and they thought they should have had a man advantage when Molyneux was pulled back when clean through.

Gore did well to keep United at bay and the pick of his saves came in the final minute. Jordan Jones and Jermaine Hylton combined well down the right before the ball was worked to star man Sammons who shot with the outside of his foot forcing the Chesham keeper into an excellent full-length stop.
