STUDLEY are top of the Midlands Football League Division One after two wins in a week.

A battling 2-1 win over Bolehall Swifts on Saturday was followed on Tuesday night with a 4-0 rout of Heather St John’s A brace goals for super-sub midfielder Harvey Alexander made sure Studley overcame the odds against Bolehall Swifts on Saturday.

The Bees had been reduced to ten men after Sam Hawker’s dismissal in the the first half and were trailing 1-0.

But substitute Alexander came off the bench to rifle home a left-footed effort from the edge of the box in the 70th minute before scoring with his right 12 minutes later.

Manager Paul Smith praised the impact sub, who has changed his name from Joe O’Toole.

“We joked afterwards because Harvey was moaning about being on the bench but he’s certainly got my attention now by scoring two good goals. The team showed tremendous spirit because everything was against us.

“Sam Hawker was sent off for raising his hands to a Bolehall player, it was just handbags really and I have seen yellow cards given out, but in the modern game you cannot do that really.

“I have added players from Bromsgrove Sporting and Blackwood and kept some eight or nine of last season’s players and I thought it might take a while for the squad to settle, but they have all knitted together very well.

“I must also praise Dan Dineen and Toby Checketts in central defence, they won absolutely everything.

“It was a really good way to start the season. Bolehall are a side who will be going for promotion this season.

“But the squad has come together very quickly and I am pleased with what I have seen.”

Harvery scored against Heather, while Matt Poyner hit the target twice and Dan Carter also found the back of the net.

Studley now tackle Coventry Copsewood on Saturday (3pm ko).

They welcome several players back, but are still missing several.

Ben Judd (suspended), Sam Willis (holiday) and Rico Taylor, who is recovering from a hernia injury, will miss the game, while Ricardo Richards and Josh McGinley are set to return.
