Tividale winger signs for Church

ALVECHURCH'S summer rebuilding continued apace with the addition of three more new faces.

Manager Ross Thorpe bolstered his attacking options with the addition of pacey left winger Chris Rabone.

The wideman has joined from Tividale, who he helped to the Midland Alliance title last season.

Rabone was player of the season for Gornal Town during the 2012-13 season, when the Peacocks reached the FA Vase quarter-finals.

Blackwood forward Gareth Evans has also moved to Lye Meadow.

Meanwhile, Alvechurch have also secured the services of midfielder Malachi Farquharson for the first month of the season.

Farquharson started off at Walsall's youth academy and has also played for Chasetown.

He will fill the gap left by Jack Creswell, who is suspended for the first five matches of the Midlands Premier after picking up a flurry of bookings and sendings off at the end of last season.

Farquharson is currently at University of Leeds and will return to his studies in September.

On another positive note, Alvechurch have also secured the signing of ex-Redditch United forward Connor Deards.

Thorpe said: "It's great to have Connor on board again, he's an excellent player and had one or two clubs interested in him.

"We want to keep our best players like him.

"I am very happy with our signings, Chris Rabone has been an important player for Gornal Athletic and Tividale,

while Gareth Evans is another good addition.

"With Jack missing at the start of the season we needed someone to play in his role and Malachi is a very good fit.

"He returns to university in September but it works well for both parties."

Alvechurch kicked-off their friendly programme with a 7-0 win over Solihull Moors under-21s.

Evans bagged a brace as did on trial experienced centre forward Jermaine Clarke

Thorpe said: "Jermaine has been training with us all summer and we would like to do something but nothing has been sorted yet."

Alvechurch play Alcester Town at Four Dwellings School on Saturday (2pm ko).
