Alcester suffer a heavy setback in league encounter

ALCESTER suffered a heavy 65-shot defeat when they visited Rubery Sports John Connolly in Northfield League Division Two.

Only Jean Bannister and Mike Dempsey (both 21-19) tasted victory in a one-sided clash.

In the Yardley Wood League, Alcester’s A team visited Woodlands Park and lost a close fought game by a mere five shots.

The second match of the week for Alcester A in Yardley Wood Division Two saw them suffer the club’s second 65-shot defeat of the week at the hands of Hockley Heath A.

Yardley Wood Division Four brought a massive victory for Alcester B when they entertained Ye Olde Knowle B and recorded a 78 shot triumph.

The winners were Red Masterson, with a brilliant 21-3 card, Rick Horton and David Hodgson (both 21-9), Trish Barry (21-10), Jean Craddock (21-12), Jean Sherrington (21-13), Val McDermott (21-15) and Margaret D’Elia (21-19).

In the Heart of England league, Alcester A beat Woodbourne in Division Two, while the B side saw off Yardley Wood Social.

Meanwhile, the over-60s were too strong for King George VI B.
