ALCESTER saw five of their teams taste success over the last week.

In Division Four of the Yardley Wood League, the B team hosted Hockley Heath B in a rearranged match and won by 59 shots, without a single visiting player producing a winning card.

Alcester’s winners were David Hodgson with a formidable 21-5 success, Jean Sherrington (21-9), Red Masterson (21-12), Margaret D’Elia (21-14), Jean Craddock (21-15), Val McDermott (21-16), Keith Pardoe (21-18) and Bob Le Resche (21-20).

In Division Two, Alcester’s A entertained the Hockley Heath A and won by 31 shots. Alcester’s winning cards came from Renny Bannister and Ken Harvey (both 21-11), Peter Barber and Jean Bannister (both 21-12) and Le Resche (21-19).

In action for the second time in the week in Division Four of the Yardley Wood League, Alcester B experienced a total reversal of their earlier fortunes when they visited the notoriously difficult Ye Olde Knowle Green. This time it was Alcester’s turn to fail in all eight games, losing by 60 shots.

In Division Two of the Heart of England League, Alcester A suffered a narrow eight-shot defeat at Woodbourne A. They did pick up four league points with winning cards from Le Resche (21-7), Bannister and Barber (both 21-14) and John Slater (21-19).

In Division Five, there was a solid 19-shot home victory for Alcester B in their match against Yardley Wood Social Club.

Margaret D’Elia (21-5) and Val McDermott (21-7) showed they were both in stunning form.

In the over-60s section of the Heart of England League, Alcester A have been finding things hard going in Division One, so a 27-shot home win against Colebrook A was a welcome relief.

The B team in Division Six produced an excellent result for the second week in succession, this time in an away fixture against King George VI B. With five out of six cards providing winners.
