THIS week saw a return to league action on the Crown Green Bowling scene for Alcester.

In Division Two of the Northfield league, Alcester visited Colebrook A and suffered a 47 shot defeat.

Dave Hovell (21-18) recorded the only win, although Jean Bannister and Trish Barry were both hedged out.

The Yardley Wood League season got under way with Alcester A seeing off Ye Olde Knowle A in by 52 shots in Division Two.

Ken Harvey produced a fine 21-3 victory and he was backed up by excellent wins by John Slater (21-8), David Whittington (21-9) and Dave Hovell (21-11).

In the first round of the Heart of England Cup, Alcester A lost to faced Wythall A.

Alcester had four winners at home but the away quartet were all defeated.

Alcester’s winning cards came from Bannister (21-10), Dave Hovell (21-17) and Peter Barber (21-18), with creditable 20-21 away card from John Alderson.

The B team match against Ye Olde Knowle B was almost equally close, but Alcester managed to pull off an overall nine shot success.

All four of the home squad were successful, with the excellent Margaret D’Elia leading the way with a 21-6 card.

Jean Craddock also produced an excellent card (21-9), with the other winners being Trish Barry (21-19) and Ken Craddock (21-20). The away four did enough to ensure Alcester’s place in the draw for the second round, led by David Hodgson (21-17).

Alcester will be opening their green, which is situated behind the Baptist Church, on Saturday from 2pm to anyone who is interested.
