FORMER Alcester Grammar School student Andrew Pozzi was in fine form at the British Universities and College Gatorade Nationals.

Pozzi (pictured right) bettered his own personal best, set in 2012, completing the 60-metre hurdles in 7.57 seconds.

“I was actually hoping for a little bit quicker, but it was good for now,” said Pozzi, “I just need to work on a few technical things.”

This victory was another step forward for the 21-year-old.

The Stratford sprinter is still finding his best form since recovering from the serious foot injury which put him out of action last year.

His next challenge is the World Indoor Championships in Poland next week.

Britain are sending a 35-strong squad to Sopot.

Pozzi booked his place in the squad with a victory at the Sainsbury’s National Championships a fortnight before.

He will be part of a squad including high jumper Katarina Johnson-Thompson, pole-vaulter Holly Bleasdale, and Dwain Chambers.

British Athletics performance director Neil Black said: “This is a relatively young team with a number of new faces taking individual places, which is encouraging as we focus on long-term development towards 2016 and 2017.

“Where there were any close decisions we have prioritised the British Championships results and it is good to see athletes and their coaches, who have made significant breakthroughs in the last year, are maintaining those results.”
