Studley sign two for end of season
1:00pm Thursday 27th February 2014 in Sport
STUDLEY have bolstered their squad to make sure they are prepared for the hectic end of season fixtures.
With the Bees set to play two games a week until the end of the season in the Midland Combination Premier, manager Paul Smith has drafted in two players.
Striker Jovan Blake-Walker has increased Studley’s options at centre forward.
The former Bromsgrove Sporting man had been playing for Causeway United and Pilkington XXX on a duel registration.
He will add further competition up front and compete with Riccardo Richards, who joined two weeks ago.
Midfielder Jason Wellings has also joined. Wellings played for Causeway United but has been playing for Bartley Green.
Smith said: “Jovan will add some power up front and compete with Riccardo.
“Both of them are strong and can hold up the ball and gives us something different to what we already have here.
“Jason is a combative midfielder that I’ve had my eye on for a while.
“We’ve got options and some strength in depth and we will need it because from next week we’ve got two games a week until the end of the season.”
Studley ended a seven-week break from the league on Saturday when they edged out Racing Club Warwick 1-0 thanks to Reece Hewitt’s goal.
The Bees had a number of chances but Smith was pleased his side returned to action with a three points win in the bag.
He said: “Their chairman apologised because the youth team had played on the pitch and it was like a cow field to be honest.
“It was a leveller but we had a lot of chances and could have won by more goals.
“We look in good shape for the rest of the season and I am targeting a top three finish.
“I finished third with Earlsdon last season and anything below that I would see as a failure.
“I am hoping we’ve got momentum and no real injury worries so things are looking good.”
Studley go to Coventry Copsewood in the Midland Combination Premier on Saturday, at 3pm, and entertain Littleton, Tuesday, March 4, 7.45pm.
