ALVECHURCH boss Ross Thorpe wants his team to build on their first win of the year, after a kit mix-up saw them wearing their hosts’ away strip.
Goals for Chris Hughes and Connor Deards ensured the Lye Meadow outfit saw off Dunkirk 2-0 in the Midland Alliance.
It was only the second match they had played in 2014, the previous one being a 1-1 draw with leaders Quorn in January, because of the rain.
The Churchmen had to play in Dunkirk’s away kit , and Thorpe explained: “I got a call from the club secretary about 1.30pm asking if I was taking the kit up to Dunkirk.
“I live in Sutton, so it’s too far away from Alvechurch’s ground. Luckily Dunkirk were happy to lend us a kit.
“I thought we looked understandably rusty for the first 20 minutes but we were comfortable and then got better.” Alvechurch were set to play Tividale last night, then go to Heath Hayes (3pm ko) on Saturday and Heather St John’s on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).
