REDDITCH GB senior squad judo star Laura Dangerfield has made a strong start to 2014.

Her latest success was at the Warwick University Open Championships, where she was one of a trio of Samurai Judo Club members to take silver.

She reached the final of her weight category comfortably but had to settle for silver after an error in the final against a French opponent.

Dangerfield was competing in the women’s second level black belts section and had good wins against players from Tonbridge, Oxford and London on her way to the bronze medal.

The gifted young judo star experienced a frustrating 2013 after injuring her shoulder but she has fully recovered and is raring to go.

At the Eindhoven International Open Championships in Holland last year, she powered her way to the final and bagged another silver medal.

Top graded players from 40 different judo clubs as far away as Aberdeen and Belfast came to Kidderminster for Samurai Senior High Grades Open in January.
