Woodrush leave civil service standing in a one-sided clash

TITLE-CHASING Woodrush consolidated second-place in the Midlands Division Four West (South) with a 79-0 victory over bottom side Birmingham Civil Service.

The Icknield Road side filled their boots with 13 tries in a one-sided clash.

Woodrush are hot on the heels of leaders Harbury, who they trail by six points.

Simon Andrews was driven over after just four minutes, Andy Warrilow followed three minutes later from similar circumstances and Ed Gardiner finishing a 12-phase passing move to score under the posts as Woodrush streak into a 19-0 lead. Luke Russell finished the third driven maul try two minutes later to secure a bonus point.

Warrilow added a further three tries and Gardiner another to leave the half-time score 48-0 and the Civil Service with a huge mountain to climb.

Titch Thomas touched down after good phase work just after the break and Anton Taylor made the most of a destructive scrum by the dominant home pack picking to dive under the posts.

James Gordon finished a fine winger’s try, Gardiner completed his hat trick and Mike Loughrey ended the game from yet another driven maul.

Woodrush turn their attention to Claverdon away on Saturday.

l Meanwhile, relegationbattling Alcester lost 24-10 in the Midlands Division Four West (South).

Despite a try by captain Joe Sears, which was converted by Tom Alder, they were caught out by their counterattacking opponents.

They continue their battle for survival with a trip to Birmingham Civil Service on Saturday (2.15pm ko).
