WALKWOOD Middle School’s Year 8 football team confirmed their status as the best in the district as they defeated St Bede’s 1-0 to win the title for the second year in a row.

Callum Hall’s early goal ensured a repeat of last year’s final, although it could not match last year’s 3-2 thriller in terms of drama.

Charlie Neath was dangerous for Walkwood, but St Bede’s defended stoutly, with Charley Schroeder assured at the back and goalkeeper Ben Johnson handling safely throughout.

The game was played at Redditch United’s Valley Stadium and watched by an enthusiastic crowd.

United manager Liam McDonald presented Will Skelton with the man of the match award after his fine display.

The medals and cup were handed out by Redditch chairman Chris Swan, who praised the manner in which the game had been played, and thanked the spectators for their support.

Last season, Walkwood under- 13s team enjoyed unprecedented success, reaching the final of the FA National Schools Cup, where they were edged out 4-3 by Northampton School for Boys.

Walkwood squad: Sam Parkes, Nathan Clee, Tom Gill, Bradley Smith, Daniel Morris, Will Skelton, Charlie Neath, Matt Heath, Jay Robins, Ethan Mckeown, Callum Hall, Charlie Atherton, Owen Smith, Callum Knight, Leanne Bott, Liam Clee (injured).
