ATHLETICS: Connor Smith was the top performer for Bromsgrove and Redditch AC at the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League held at Halesowen Stadium.

Smith romped home to take second place in the under-15 boys category, coming in just six seconds behind the winner.

He is now third overall for 2013 and a only a few points behind the leader.

Katie Plummer made steady improvement in the under-17 women’s category, finishing in seventh place.

Amy Mijovic-Cauldwell ran a very convincing race placing sixth in the under-13 girls’ category,.

Ellen Bowen finished 16th, closely followed by Amy Tongue (18th) out of a field of 120 runners.

The event saw the club finish in 10th place with 3,824 points, but they slipped down the league table one place to 12th.

The club’s next fixture is the Wheaton Aston 10 kilometre road race on Friday, December 27.

ANGLING: Pete Elms won Needles AC’s Sunday Open on the River Alne with a haul of 7lbs 14ozs.

Barry Feldhahn was second with 6lbs 13ozs, while Glyn Blewett (1lb 12ozs) was third.
