MID-TABLE Redditch were outgunned by 44-18 by title-chasing Atherstone in Midlands Division Four West (South) on Saturday.

The Kingfishers were swept aside in a one-sided second half, when the home team scored 31 points.

For Redditch Brynn Williams bagged a try, while centre Josh Holt recorded an impressive 13-point haul.

At one stage, the Bromsgrove Road-based club were only trailing 20-18 but Atherstone proved to be too strong.

Sam Moore bagged a brace of touchdowns for the hosts, while Mike Thomas, Dean Merrick, Danny Powell and Bob Greenaway also went over.

Sixth-placed Redditch entertain Barton-under-Needwood in the leagueon Saturday (2.15pm ko) and will be hoping to go into the winter break on a winning note. So far this season, they have won four of their first nine league fixtures.

The Kingfishers have recorded mixed results in local derbies, beating Alcester but were edged out by Woodrush. They have recovered well from last season’s relegation and are currently enjoying one of their more successful campaigns.
