Rampant start helps Swan tighten title grip
12:00pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in Sport
SWAN have tightened their grip on the top spot in the Studley Skittles League after beating Swingers.
The leaders were quickly into their stride and stretched out a 23-pin lead after only two legs played.
Swingers fought back by winning the third leg but consistent Swan pulled away in the final leg to confirm their victory. Sally Racki and Helen Racki led the way with 37 and 35 respectively while team-mates Dave Maule and Graham Howells also notched 35 pins.
Swingers’s best score came from captain Brenda Morris with 35 but no other team mates could score more than 30 to boost their side.
Engineers produced a relatively low score by their standards, but it was still far too much for eight–man Alley Cats.
Even with the discounted scores, the margin of the win for Engineers was by a big 45 pins.
Despite good individual efforts by Tony O’Connor (35), Sam Billyard (33) and Pete Sollis (33), Cats never looked in the chase.
Maurice Wroe (37), Ian Greenaway (36), Mark Ganderton (35) and John Bool (34) ensured Engineers took nine points from the game.
Well Developed are third in the table after beating Team BG, who dropped to the bottom.
The tightest game of the week was between Chris and Gerry Show and Jumbo Jet Set, the former running out winners by five pins.
Results: Swan 317, Swingers 295; Engineers 267, Alley Cats 232; Well Developed 311, Team BG 293; Chris & Gerry 312, Jumbo Jet Set 307.
