Fourth defeat sees Redditch out of cup
8:00pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Sport
Bredon Star 34, Redditch 5
REDDITCH’S losing streak is now four games as they were out-played by an energetic Bredon side on their way to defeat in the North Midlands Cup The Kingfishers had made a bright start but Star opened the scoring when the visitors chased down a kick.
But Lewis Saddington picked up a dropped pass in midfield and fed brother Tom who showed his pace by accelerating to the line.
Redditch again showed their dominance in the scrum, but the home team starved Redditch of any possession.
Bredon scored twice more before the break, with the one score coming in a period when Redditch were down to 14 men.
In the second half, heavy rain seemed to favour Redditch with scrums and lineouts putting pressure on the home defence but they could not convert dominance into points.
The visitors ran out of steam in the final 20 minutes and the youthful Bredon forwards ran in another three scores.
Redditch will aim to turn things around this week with a tricky fixture at Harbury, who top the Midlands Division Four West (South).
The seconds showed promise but lost 36-12 to Kidderminster Carolians’ seconds.
They return to Merit Table action on Saturday with a home match against Bournville thirds.
