Animal ready for 'durable' Gray
6:13pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
REDDITCH boxer Andy “D’Animal” Robinson believes his brand new training regime will pay dividends tomorrow night.
The 28-year-old was speaking at the weigh-in for his super middleweight battle against Kieran Gray at The Institute in Birmingham where he easily made the weight.
The unbeaten super middleweight said: "I have never trained this hard in all my life and have had a very hard camp, I've tortured myself.
“This is my eighth training camp and by far the longest and most intense and I feel great in the ring now.
"This is the first fight I will have had after working with my new nutritionist Chris Webb who has made a massive difference."
He added: "I have changed my diet totally and am feeling the benefit as my energy levels are up.
"I have made the weight easily and need to put it back on. "
So easily that Robinson was one of the few boxers at the weigh-in who could tuck into the buffet.
But Robinson wanted to stress he is not underestimating opponent Kieran Gray.
He said: "Gray is a tough durable opponent and I am taking nothing for granted and have trained for ten rounds even though it is just a six round fight.
"I have had most my opponents on the run after two rounds and I will be looking for the knock out."
Topping the bill tomorrow night is the Bronze International Masters welterweight title between Birmingham’s Chris Truman and Birkenhead’s Sean Lewis – there is also a host of other fighters on the bill including Ryan Aston and Warren Sinden.
