Friendly setback for Alcester
9:00am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
ALCESTER went down 51-3 to Worcester Wanderers seconds in a friendly.
With two weeks to go until the start of the Midlands Division Four West (South) season, Alcester received a lesson in good rugby from their opponents.
Debuts were given to number eight Christian Rushton and second row Lewis Smith, who both equipped themselves well as the scrum looked much stronger than it did a week ago.
Scrum-half and club captain Joe Sears skippered the side for the first time following an injury hit pre-season and had an outstanding game and was deservedly awarded the man-of-the-match.
Alcester’s points came from the boot of fly half Jamie Randall. Centre Jamie Clarke came closest to a try for Alcester but was held up on the line.
