Resurgent Studley take promotion race into final weekend
6:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Sport
STUDLEY could still win promotion in the Warwickshire League Division One but will need to beat leaders Solihull and Blossomfield (12.30pm start) and rely on other results going their way this weekend.
The Bees ensured their chase for third place would go into the final round of games after beating Marston Green by four wickets.
Studley are now fourth in the table, level on points with third-placed Southam.
But they will have to defeat leaders Solihull at home, who also need a victory to see off the challenge of Hampton and Solihull, and hope they better Southam’s result against Pak Shaheen.
But they will also be hoping that Aston Manor defeat Millford Hall and to avoid relegation from the Birmingham League Division Three. If they do so, no teams will be relegated into the Warwickshire League and ensure three teams would be promoted from Division One.
Studley go into Saturday’s vital clash in brilliant form. They are unbeaten in eight matches and have won the last four.
Captain Steve Rose said: “Our form has been second to none in the second half of the season.
“It’s no surprise that once we started getting all our players back fit and available that the results starting coming.
“It’s amazing how things have come down to the last weekend of the season, which you often don’t see in cricket.
“We’ve got to better Southam’s result and hope Aston Manor beat Milford Hall.
"In the last few years we've been involved in relegation battles at this stage, so it's nice to be involved at the other end of the table.”
Studley leapt ahead of Marston thanks to a strong bowling display.
Stuart Harris (3-40) and Brandon Miller (3-45) helped to restrict Green to 176, before Studley made 177-6 in 50 overs.
