REDDITCH RFC’s players were put through their paces by NEW College coach Ollie Stokes to cement the strenghtening ties of the two organisations The Kingfishers were tested to the limit on a demanding circuit.
Redditch and College have been working closely over the past couple of seasons to provide a local rugby outlet for Redditch and Bromsgrove school leavers.
This season, Redditch will play to the the college, who will play in a league and a ten-a-side format for local education establishments, Meanwhile, Redditch held a full scale selection trial on Saturday, with many old and new faces in evidence.
Club coach Simon Kite was pleased with the performance from all concerned as they prepare for their North Midlands Vase clash at home to Warley on Satuday (3pm ko).
Redditch will be weakened in the back row by the loss of last season’s player of the year, Jack Duffy, who has transferred to Old Halesonians, while Tom Richards has also moved on to Droitwich.
This loss will be countered by the return of stand off Tom Saddington, who has spent the last season occupying the 10 shirt with Worcester Wanderers, helping to earn them promotion to National League three for the coming season.
Redditch will also be hooping to bounce back from last season’s relegation to the Midlands Division Four West (South).
While the first team take on Warley on Saturday, the rest of the club will hold further trials against Kings Norton at the Bromsgrove Road headquarters. This will be the last chance to press for places in the opening league and Merit table fixtures scheduled for the following week.
Anyone thinking of playing this year should turn up for a 3pm kick off, to take the first steps in their new boots.
