Alderson helps sink Romsley

ALCESTER’S crown green bowling teams enjoyed an excellent week of results.
The club kicked it off with a fine away win in Northfield League Division Three which puts them into the second promotion spot.
Success for Alcester at Romsley and Hunnington came on the back of winning cards from John Alderson (21-8), Renny Bannister (21-9), Ken Harvey (21-10) and Dave Hovell (21-19), to give Alcester a 23 shot victory.
The final week of the Yardley Wood League season brought success for the A team in Division Two as they secured fourth in the table but disappointment for the B side in Division Five.
Entertaining Ye Olde Knowle A at Meeting Lane, Alcester's A team claimed a 31 shot victory, and six points.
Winners for Alcester were Hovell, who completed a superb season with a magnificent 21-2 win, Bob Le Resche (21-7), Jean Bannister (21-12) and John Slater (21-16) Having clinched promotion last week, the B team missed out on the title as they lost to Ye Olde Knowle and could only muster a fine 21-8 win for Alcester.
In the Heart of England League Division One, Alcester’s A team shocked leaders Tamworth with a splendid performance to win by 40 shots.
Winners for Alcester were R Bannister (21-7), Hovell, Le Resche (both 21-11), J Bannister (21-13), Peter Barber and Carole Slater (both 21-15).
Although remaining in last place in the division, the eight points earned bring Alcester to within a single point of the team above them, Stoke Prior, their opponents in the last two games of the season.
In Division Six, the final round of matches brought a superb win for Alcester B at King George VI B, to gain eight points in their chase for promotion.
The over-60s section of the Heart of England League saw Alcester's match in Division One postponed due to heavy rain.
The B team in Division Six travelled to nearby Wootton Hall B, where they fell to a 34 shot defeat, with John Williamson (21-20) bagging Alcester's only winner.
