ANDREZJ Jagielski emphatically led Astwood Bank’s return to winning ways claiming a stunning 9-35 as they looked to get their Worcestershire League Division One challenge back on track after a difficult couple of weeks.

This was the off-spinner’s fifth five-wicket haul for of the season and took hist tally to a league leading 39 in 12 appearances.

Despite some accurate seam bowling, Burghill and Tillington had made a steady start to their pursuit of Astwood Bank’s 253 reaching 65 of 18 before Jagielski removed Owen Morgan (38) in his third over.

Well-supported by Dan Thomas and Jon Summers, whose accuracy maintained plenty of pressure, Jagielski then found bounce and some turn to work his way through the home teams line up.

Jack Hale was next, well caught at short leg by Tom Pedley for 25 before Barney Morgan fell caught at point for seven.

Burghill overseas all-rounder Hamish Cooke looked to steady the ship but he was forced to watch from the non-strikers end as Tim Walshe was caught and bowled and Jacob James trapped lbw in quick succession.

Burghill stalwart Alex Hedges went with the score at 121 run out by some excellent fielding from Dan Thomas but he too could have been a Jagielski victim as a simple chance was spurned at cover that would have given the spinner the perfect 10 wicket haul.

Captain Mark Preece couldn’t save his side either as he too went caught short leg and soon after Cooke was caught and bowled for a well-played 43, ending all likely hood of a draw, leaving Jagielski to mop up the tail with a double wicket maiden in his 16th over and the 44th of the innings.

Earlier, the Banks total was built around 79 off 61 balls from captain and opener Steve Adshead before some nagging spin and the slow pitch meant some sensible middle order batting from Vince Valente (25), Pete Alexander (45) and Andy Alexander (33) ensured the visitors reached a winning score.

They remain six points behind leaders Hagley, who hammered Oldswinford by 156 runs, by six points in second-place.

Astwood take on third in the table Bromyard away on Saturday in the league (1.30pm start).
