Hooper scores again for Wood

Old Coventrians 24, Woodrush 8

WOODRUSH produced a committed display against the Midlands Three West (South) leaders.

Once again the Wythall outfit travelled with a much-changed side.

Against the run of play, Old Coventrians took an early lead with a try under the posts which they converted.

But the vsitors’ top try scorer, Lucas Hooper, added to his tally and kept Woodrush in contention with a try in the corner.

More pressure from the hosts led to another try before half-time, this time in the corner, but the conversion was missed.

Steve Smart slotted a penalty for Woodrush to make it 12-8 but the more experienced Coventry outfit used their superior strength to create two more openings in the second half and cross the Woodrush try line on both occasions, with just one more conversion.

This Saturday, Woodrush have a friendly match and return to league duties with the all-important home match against Pinley on March 22.
