SCHOOLS from Redditch tasted success at the Worcestershire Winter Sainsbury’s Games last week.
The Games — which took place at the University of Worcester, Top Barn Activity Centre, St John’s Sports Centre and Christopher Whitehead Language College last Thursday — harnessed the spirit of the Olympics and Paralympics to inspire young people to be the best they can.
The children — ranging in age from eight to 16 — went head-to-head in their own mini-Olympics, battling it out for the title of Worcestershire School Games Champion in eight different sports.
There was success for Alvechurch Middle School and St Bede’s Catholic Middle School in the sports hall athletics, where students excelled at track and field events.
Alvechurch won the boys years five and six section, while St Bede’s won the girls year seven group.
Woodrush High School were top dogs in the key stage three girls badminton.
There was also individual success for Beth Lloyd from Alvechurch Middle School, who was second in the year six girls cross country, followed in third by Josie Steele from Ridgeway Middle.
