Alley Cats at the double

ALLEY Cats completed the double over Swingers to climb back to fifth spot in the Studley Skittles League.

Strong scores for Graham Batchelor (36 pins), Tony O’Connor (34), Ben Phillips (34) and and Neil Harrison 40 saw Alley Cats home.

Only captain Brenda Morris (41) was in good form.

Trouble Makers went down to yet another heavy defeat, this time to Swan who also completed the double – again with maximum points.

Michelle Baskill bowled well for Makers with 36 pins and got good support from Marci Beauchamp (34) and Evelyn Freeman (32) but this was never enough against Swan who had eight players with 30 plus pins.

Bob Haycock starred with 39 and Dave Maule, Phil Bussey and Lyn Fryer chipped in with 36 each.

There was another double by second-placed Alcester Nomads who were not entirely convincing in beating Team BG.

Alan Cummings (39), Bob Browning (37), Margaret Povey (37) and Gordon Povey (35) led the way for Nomads, while for Team BG the best responses came from June Baker (37) and Ray Cartwright (36).

Table-topping Maudslay also completed the double – this over Jumbo Jet Set. Jumbos put in a season’s best score and led going into the last leg. Left 74 to win, Maudslay won on the penultimate ball with Dick Walters (42), Stu (40) and Keith Fryer (36) all in good form.

In reply, Jumbos main scorers were Steve Wardle (43) and 37 each from John McManus and Pete Battle-Welch.

Lodge Farmers ended up well-beaten by Engineers for whom best scores came from John Bool (39), Pete Clewlow (39) and 36 each from Andy Clewlow and Mark Ganderton. Only Steve Smith (34) and Glyn Morley (33) for Farmers presented any threat.
