Woodrush slip into relegation zone after Ledbury loss

Ledbury 34, Woodrush 7

WOODRUSH slipped into the relegation zone after another disappointing performance away at Ledbury.

The Wythall side fell to second from bottom after fellow relegation battlers Ledbury leapt above them in the Midlands Division Three West (South).

They should have gone ahead after 10 minutes when they were awarded a penalty on the Ledbury five metre line but they elected to kick for a line-out and the opportunity was wasted.

Instead it was Ledbury who scored under the posts on the break-away and this set-back virtually sealed Woodrush's fate.

The score was just 10-0 at half-time and Woodrush should have been in with a chance in the second half but a lack of commitment and fitness saw the home side run in four more tries with just one in return, when winger James Evans out-sprinted his opponent to touch down. Josh Tomlinson then kicked the conversion.

But it was too little too late as the game was already dead and buried by then and Woodrush are left needing to pull something out of the bag in their remaining fixtures if they are to avoid the drop.

On Saturday they face fellow strugglers Southam at home in their anual President's Day fixture (2.15pm ko).
