Disappointing weekend for Kings and Redditch

Ledbury 15, Kings Norton 5

KINGS Norton suffered their third defeat in a row in the Midlands Division Three West (South) as they were edged out by relegation battling Ledbury on Saturday.

The Hopwood-based side paid the price for injuries and absences as they ran out of steam against a Ledbury side fighting for their lives.

Norton had battled hard but faded as the game took its toll and the lack of reinforcements, they only had two players on the bench, left them with few options.

Rob McGhee pulled a try back but it could not prevent Kings from slipping to defeat.

Despite the setback, they remain seventh in the table and in little danger of going up or down.

Coach Ian Jackson will be hoping to welcome back centre Jack Fairhurst back for Saturday’s league trip to Southam (2.15pm ko), who has been absent with a broken finger for the last ten weeks.

Meanwhile, Redditch suffered a disappointing defeat after a lengthy break because of the recent Arctic conditions as they lost 33-7 at fellow relegation rivals Southam.

Defeat means the Kingfishers are stranded at the bottom of the table, while Southam, who are directly above them, opened up a 12-point lead over them.

Redditch have a pool friendly fixture this weekend and resume the league at home to Pinley on Saturday, February 16.
