Woodrush 0, Old Coventrians 34

WOODRUSH lost to the Midlands Division Three West’s leaders in a mud bath at Icknield Street on Saturday but took heart from several performances from newcomers having to stand in for injured regulars.

Whether the game would actually go ahead remained in the balance all morning but the referee was happy for it to proceed.

Old Coventrians notched up all their five tries in the first half but Woodrush dug in in the second half and started to play some rugby themselves, which was difficult in the conditions.

A score eluded them though and the second half remained pointless with the referee blowing the final whistle ten minutes early in the driving rain to the relief of all concerned.

The next match is at home to Aston Old Edwardians this Saturday in the North Midlands Shield (2.15pm ko).
