Bottleneck blues

WELL, the parties responsible for putting together the plan for the roadworks alongside the new Aldi store in Studley certainly showed in no uncertain terms that they couldn’t organise a booze-up in a brewery, never mind anything as sophisticated as managing a rice pudding!

Was it really beyond the wit of any of those concerned in the Aldi company, the company that undertook the work, or any of the local authorities consulted (or even remotely aware), to recognise the the hold-ups that would be caused at this major bottleneck in Studley, itself already a huge bottleneck between the major roads to the north and those to the south?

Lorries passing through could have been diverted – Lord knows, people are usually only too ready to put up diversion signs these days! Floodlighting could have been brought in, so that the work could have been done at night. Of course, this would have been more costly. As it is, the expense was borne in the increased fuel costs of the strings and strings of motorists and lorry drivers who waited through four, five, six changes of lights before being able to get going again. Hopefully this minor disaster won’t be continued into next week. For the future, please can our local councils, the local police and anyone else remotely concerned, ensure that this shambles never happens again in Warwickshire – and particularly not on our patch!

Val Gaize, Studley
