I have noticed that Redditch council are advertising for advertisers on the road traffic islands around Redditch.

While appreciating the councils need to raise income, this I believe to be an ill-conceived policy.

A motorist approaching a traffic island has to watch traffic coming from several directions on to the island, plus the necessity of traffic changing lanes, and once on the island needs to be aware of traffic either side, in front, and behind of him, so as to make his move safely.

It takes a lot of concentration, especially at rush hour times. To be distracted by advertising on the island is a hazard we could do without.

I do hope the council will reconsider this.

We are already hearing reports of increased accidents at night time due to, it is believed, street lighting being switched off to save money.
