TWO items of news recently caught my eye.

First there are now 104 billionaires living in Britain with a combined wealth of £301 billion despite last year’s gross national product in the UK being £410 billion. Britain now has more billionaires per head of the population than any other country and London alone has 72 billionaires, well ahead of the next ranked city, Moscow, which has 48.

Second the Hereford and Worcester Fire Authority has plans to cut one fire engine from its stations in Hereford and one from its stations in Worcester, in an effort to save £5 million over three years.

You really couldn’t make it up. Still not to worry brave, soon-to-be redundant firefighters of Hereford and Worcester, maybe David Cameron can find you a job as a rich man’s lackey.
