AS an Alcester resident, I recently received the local Conservative ‘In Touch’ magazine, which states “… over the next few years we will likely see further development in Alcester”. How can this be justified?

They say “…we will have to take our share of new housing”.

What have they got up their sleeves?

I find it incomprehensible that after fighting three major housing schemes over the last three years, some Alcester councillors are now promoting even more housing developments as a boon to our town. When the current Redrow and Bloor estates are completed, we will have well over 1,000 extra inhabitants – with all the pressure that will put on the limited resources and infrastructure of our small town, not to mention its character.

The Draft Core Strategy figure for Alcester up to 2031 is already met, so why call for more? Are they bowing to pressure from the Stratford District Council leadership who are desperate for more new housing sites due to their failure to produce a sound Core Strategy and demonstrate a five-year land supply?

Clearly some councillors are far from ‘In Touch’ with what the Alcester community has been saying for some time.
