THERE has been some criticism of the Save the Alex Campaign on social media sites recently, so we thought we would take the opportunity to set the record straight.

Since the public meeting at the Palace Theatre in March, the campaign has continued to lobby the wider NHS system and put across the public’s views and concerns around access, sustainability and the impact on the vulnerable should services be removed from the Alex. This has included attending and holding events to talk to the public and we have attended numerous meetings with members of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and others.

The campaign has cross-party support and has tried to stick to an evidence- based approach, as what we have learned over the last two years is the NHS does not pay much notice to political point-scoring.

We know not everyone agrees with this approach. Some want us to attack the government, others to ask why the last government chose to build a PFI hospital at Worcester.

They are all valid points, but ultimately do not make much impact when talking to clinicians and NHS bigwigs concerned about patient mix and consultant numbers.

Of course, others are free to make these points to the relevant NHS organisations and politicians and we would not stand in the way of that.

We would ask people to remember when they sling insults at us that we are volunteers who have put in our own resources genuinely trying our hardest to save your hospital and its services.

We may not have got everything right, but we are giving everything we’ve got on your behalf and will continue to do so as long as the wider public want us to.
