I SEE that lots of people have signed in favour Redditch Football Club moving to Washford.

The council planning have quite rightly refused this. For a start this is green belt, and if they allow this to go ahead, where else will they build on green belt?

Apart from this, traffic on Icknield Street Drive is already causing enormous problems with Halfords distribution and other factories using this route, and it is worse on Sundays when the clubs play there and the Arrow boot sale is on.

The ground there is very prone to flooding and drainage is a real problem as the Washford Mill discovered in the last heavy rains.

Also, the number five national cycle path runs through that area.

What must the cyclists do?

I say that this is a completely ridiculous place to locate the club and if the present premises cannot be refurbished – located near the Railway Station where transport for fans and players is convenient – then another more suitable place must be found which is not going to use up our precious green belt.
