I MUST write in reply to Chris Harrison who made reference in his letter (Your View, October 30) that the Conservative councillors were “cynical” when voting against Local Plan No 4.

Perhaps I should explain to him that we live in a democratic country where people can have different views as long as they are consistent with their arguments.

The Conservative councillors have always been consistent in this process of Local Plan No 4. We have stated that Redditch only needs 2,800 houses and not the 6,440 houses the Labour council are proposing in this plan.

In February of this year, Conservative councillors all voted against the plan and won the vote, because two Labour councillors were not in the chamber when the Labour mayor called for the vote to be taken, unfortunately the Labour-run council brought back the plan to another council meeting and won the vote.

If he took off his rose-tinted glass and read about the process of the plan, or attended other council meetings, he would have heard all the arguments the Conservative councillors have put forward against the plan.

I am pleased he has given me the opportunity to correct his misunderstanding of the process of Local Plan No 4.
